Stalin Museum, Stalin Avenue, Gori, Georgia
$380.00
Travel through one of the most central and historically rich regions of Georgia, Kartli.
The tour starts in the Tbilisi, the lively capital of Georgia. You will walk through narrow streets of Tbilisi Old town, ride a ropeway up to Narikala fortress, the city’s main defenders from the medieval times. In Mtskheta, you’ll come face to face with the legendary church of Svetitskhoveli, the oldest in Georgia. We’ll visit Jvari, another famous example of religious architecture in Georgia located on a rocky mountain just outside Mtskheta and overlooking the very place two Aragvi rivers come together into one.
In Gori, we’ll find ourselves on the tracks of modern history. This small town just northwest from Tbilisi is the birthplace of none other than Joseph Jughashvili, widely known as Joseph Stalin. In his birth home – now a museum we’ll uncover what made him into one of the two most feared leaders of the 20th century. Travelling west from Gori we’ll find ourselves in one of the oldest settlements in Georgia, Uplistsikhe. This 1st century BC town is completely carved out of a rocky surface resembling a fantastical landscape from one of JRR Tolkien’s books.
