This full-day trip takes in four touristic sites in Samtskhe-Javakheti region and is well suited to both nature and history lovers. Borjomi, made famous by its mineral water and surrounded by Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park is one of the greenest cities in Georgia. We’ll explore nature and get a taste of Borjomi water straight from the spring.
Situated within the city of Akhaltsikhe, is our next stop and a unique example of Georgia’s military architecture – the Rabati Castle. During the last 8 century, it has gone through numerous sieges as well as destructions and rebuilds making it one of the most eclectic architectural landmarks within Georgia today. After the final renovation in 2012, it has also become the cultural centre for the region.
60 km south from Rabati Castle we’ll find another jewel of Georgia’s rich and long history. Vardzia, a 12th-century cave city lies on the left bank of the river Mtkvari, extruding mysterious power through its unyielding demeanour. Carved out of the solid rock for the purpose of building an impenetrable town-fortress, the complex later became a well-fortified monastery and played a significant role in the political, cultural, educational and spiritual life of the country. Today it’s one of the most visited landmarks in Georgia.
